Over the past year, Ypsilanti Township has seen an increase in new construction projects ranging from a vehicle test track at the former GM Powertrain site to two new Tim Horton\u2019s.\u00a0Township Planning Director Joe Lawson said this is the most construction the township has seen at one time in the last five years.

\n 
\nFast Food Restaurants<\/strong>
\n\u2022\tA new Burger King is planned on a lot adjacent to a new Taco Bell at 1085 E. Michigan Ave. The final site plans for the 3,446 square-foot drive-thru restaurant have been submitted to the township.
\n\u2022\tTwo Tim Horton\u2019s Cafe and Bake Shops are also in the works. One is preparing to open next to the new Kroger station at 1311 Anna J. Stepp Drive. Construction has begun on a second location at 2220 Washtenaw Ave.
\nGas Stations<\/strong>
\n\u2022\tTwo Kroger Fuel Stations are planned. One at 2010 Whittaker Road is nearing completion and is expected to be open around Sept. 27. The second station, planned at 1771 E. Michigan Ave., is expected to close on the property in two weeks and have site plans submitted to the township in the fall.
\nBusinesses<\/strong>
\n\u2022\tDorothy\u2019s Discovery Daycare at 7265 Merritt Road has been issued a temporary certificate of occupancy while a few exterior items and landscaping take hold, Lawson said. The daycare is a home converted into a commercial space, and its owners are adding a 3,800-square-foot addition to accommodate a boom in enrollment.
\n\u2022\tWalmart is continuing with plans for an expansion on its store at 2515 Ellsworth Road. The 38,000-square-foot addition onto the existing 128,000-square-foot building will make the store a \u201cSuper\u201d Walmart and provide additional space for a full grocery store under the same roof as the general retail.
\nResidential Development<\/strong>
\n\u2022\tA $1.2 million upgrade to Lakeside Park aimed at establishing it as a \u201crowing hub” where local universities, club teams and high schools would be based is in its early stages. Plans include a 5,600 square-foot boathouse with public bathrooms, a meeting area and space to store Saline High School’s and Eastern Michigan University’s shells.
\n\u2022\tAround 80 new homes will be built in Creekside East at the southeast corner of Tuttle Hill and Merritt.
